Painting of mountains and lake titles "Days Like This" by Deanna Lavoie

Days Like This. Deanna Lavoie

Deanna's latest series celebrates the wisdom of the wild spaces as she explores the Eastern Slopes and the surrounding Foothills area of Southern Alberta. She is inspired by these spaces which are far from untidy as every stone and twig is in its place. The cycle of life is often observed in her work.  In the realistic authentic landscapes she paints, she speaks to the wisdom of the wild spaces which symbolize our resilience, rebirth, growth, awakening, vulnerability, and strengths.

Artist's Biography

There has been one main theme throughout Canadian Artist, Deanna Lavoie’s series of works - Exploration.

Painting of mountain, lake, and plant life

Sit With Me. Deanna Lavoie

Deanna’s first series, close-ups of nature or ground-scapes, were driven from her childhood explorations at the lake and field near her home in Saskatchewan. Then moving to Calgary and graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design, the mountains began to call on her creativity as did the boldness of the acrylic paint medium.

This mountain-scape series, held Deanna’s attention until those “Youthful Whispers” came calling. The joy of childhood exploration captivated her. This series has deep roots in one’s inner child which guides healing. The series branched into paintings depicting the little creatures in her yard like ladybugs and bees - toddler-like in their movements.

Welcome to Waterton. Deanna Lavoie.

Returning to nature, Deanna's latest series celebrates the wild spaces as she explores the Eastern Slopes and the surrounding Foothills area of Southern Alberta. She is inspired by these spaces where every stone and twig is in its place. She parallels the symbolic pearls of wisdom of the scenes she paints which speak to our resilience, rebirth, awakening, vulnerability, and strengths.

That Moment. Deanna Lavoie

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, making art was a large part of Deanna’s life for as long as she can remember. She graduated in 1994 with distinction from the Alberta College of Art & Design (ACAD), in Calgary, where she majored in printmaking. In 2002, she achieved her Bachelor of Fine Arts from ACAD.

Deanna's artwork has been included in exhibitions and collections in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2013, she was a finalist in the prestigious Gallipoli Memorial Art Awards in Sydney, Australia. In 2015, her acrylic on canvas, That Time of Day was a finalist at the Calgary Stampede Western Art Auction. In 2015, emboldened as an artist to do more than wear a poppy, she completed a life-size painting, The Journey to Remembrance, commemorating the First World War. This personal expression of remembrance is currently on loan to The Military Museums of Calgary.
