After retiring from a career as an Alberta Fish and Wildlife officer, with many of those years in the Sheep River area, Jim Mitchell decided to share his 38 years of experience with the world through 34 short stories in his memoir Alberta Game Warden: Behind the Badge of 172. The stories include notable enforcement cases, wildlife encounters, and humour in uniform.
