Volunteering

Volunteers are important to us! Let us know if any of these opportunities interest you!

All long-term volunteers are required to complete a criminal background check. The library manager will provide a letter so that our volunteers will not have to pay for the check.

Help with typical library tasks

  • Finding books people have requested a hold on.
  • Shelving returned books.
  • “Shelf reading.” Making certain the books are on the shelves in the correct order with legible labels.
  • “Adopt an area” by taking care of a section of the library.

Never work alone

  • Do you like sitting quietly in the evenings? We are looking for people to do just that in the library late at night to ensure that our library staff members are never alone in the building. You can either combine this with other volunteering, sit and read by the fireplace, or otherwise stay in the building until close.

Program facilitators

  • Do you have a group that you think would like to invite community members to join in? Contact the library to suggest programs (long-running or one-off) you would like to facilitate for the community!

Help with special events

  • Drawing of baloons
    Annual Book Sale:
    • Month before the sale we want: people to help sort donated books according to categories. We want eager used book buyers can find what they are looking for – or what they weren’t looking for but are very happy to find!
    • On the sale date: set-up, take-down, accepting payment, and helping people find what they are looking for.
  • Other Special Events:
    • We post calls for volunteers on our news page and on our Facebook page. Volunteers helped with the set up and take down for out annual Out Loud Events and our 40th Anniversary Party, and many other events.
