About Neil

                                    Neil and Alfie the Dog

Neil Godfrey is 63 years old. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Calgary and worked as a geoscientist for 38 years. Neil is also an accomplished artist and an avid outdoorsman.

Two years ago, at the age of 61, Neil was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases. This devastating disease worsens over time, and at the moment there is no known cure.

Neil’s talk on Wednesday, June 5th at 1:30 pm at the Sheep River Library will allow the audience to journey with him as he shares his story of sliding into the disease. There will be time for questions and answers after the talk.

Neil lives on Priddis Greens golf course with his wife of almost 39 years, Joanne. Together, they have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and a granddog Alfie who loves art.
